My goodness! It feels like I haven’t done a What I Ate Wednesday post in ages!! Between surgery and Christmas, my priorities have been elsewhere, but it sure feels good to be back to the WIAW festivities. Thanks to Jenn for hosting, I simply cannot believe this tradition reached its 100th birthday a few weeks ago!
Breakfast

Bowl: yogurt, bananas, blueberries, corn chex, kashi toasted honey oat cereal, soy milk
Mug: decaf snickerdoodle cookie coffee
Lunch
While waiting for my brussels to roast I snacked on carrots, pretzels, red pepper hummus, and drunken goat cheese all from Sprouts. Can you see a tend here? I am taking advantage of the fact that there is a Sprouts in close proximity to my parents house because I am sadly without one in Santa Barbara. The roasted red pepper hummus? Seriously a top hummus contender in my book. I loved how you could taste just a touch of tahini, not overpowering but just the right amount to compliment the spices and roasted red pepper. And then there’s the Drunken Goat Cheese, but the name explains is all…
For my actual lunch I got a little inspiration from Liv. Her recent Christmas Feast Salad made me remember how much I LOVE putting apples in salads and playing on the holiday leftovers. I ended up including romaine, roasted brussels + carrots, a granny smith apple, chopped turkey, avocado, and balsamic.
I caved and picked up a Kombucha earlier today. It had been SO long since my last sip of the fizzy beverage and my all-time favorite flavor was calling my name. So I answered.
Dinner
Thank your Orange County for having enough of a Persian population to provide its residents some legit take-out. I have no idea what the proper names for everything are, but I had chicken, saffron rice, roasted tomatoes, shiraz salad, and lavash bread.
I am genuinely going to miss all the amazing food I was able to eat while being home for Christmas Break. My family’s fridge >>> college student’s fridge.

i want that drunken goat, holy cow that sounds good. I adore goat cheese. when I am in my parents house I just like to be able to have time to cook food. my favorite is this dish with crushed tomatoes, zucchini, onions and eggplant all cooked together. total yum
I love being at home. The food in fantastic! My Dad is a great cook and I definitely miss his home-cooked meals when I’m away at school. I’m loving your hummus/pretzel/goat cheese snack. I want it.
Drunken goat cheese? I don’t even know what that is but I LOVE goat cheese. It’s so awesome going home to your family’s house and discovering random food items that you wouldn’t think to buy. For me it’s usually interesting dressings or sauces that I would never buy for myself.
Oh we usually have snacks galore at home but I’m loving your sprouts trend. I love having pizza (homemade by TJ dough) or some sort of meat (chicken or even fish though its not a meat) I don’t like to buy so much at school an not to mention its pricey. Glad you are back!
“Keep Calm and Carry On”
Your snickerdoodle cookie coffee sounds delish!! I <3 flavored coffee.
This all looks delicious! Especially that hummus – I wish there was a Sprouts in Chicago
mmmmm all those eats look delicious! my favorite food to have at home would definitely be roasted veggies, sweet potato fries (just tried these yesterday and OMG i’ve been missing out!), ice cream, and homemade mac n cheese. gotta have that balance, right?
Ha I’m a super picky eater (duh, just look at my blog name) but this WIAW reminds me SO much of my best friend who lives in laguna. She’s always eating the strangest things and I just look at them with my nose turn up haha but I agree- my fridge at home is so, so, SO superior to my kitchen at school! I can’t believe you’re going back so soon!
That Persian food looks delish! And I recently went to Sprouts for the first time…the closest one is like 20 minutes from my house (and I don’t have a car), but it also happens to be next to my BF’s old office, so I hitched a ride with him once. LOVED it! I could live in the cheese section.
Your dinner has inspired me to find some good Persian food near USC! Also, the drunken goat cheese sounds so tasty.
Thanks for the shout out, girlie! Your Christmas salad feast looks soo delicious!! I especially love the added brussel sprouts…pure genius.
Happy New Year, Theresa!
I’m SO with you on parents’ fridge/kitchen being much better than mine. It takes a lot of self-control to not go on all of the snacks my mum keeps in her cupboards. Drunken Goat’s cheese sounds fun!
There’s not so much a favourite thing I have to eat at my parents’ place but having meals as a family that I miss. Lunches/dinners are not only nicer in terms of what is served but also when not eaten alone. I already miss that!
Happy New Year! Loveee all your eats…snickerdoodle cookie coffee?! I need to try, along with the Kombucha. I’ve literally gone to TJs/Whole Foods every other day because I keep remembering random new things I want to try. A list may be helpful…#foodieprobs
Drunken goat cheese? Uhm, okay that just sounds ridiculously good!!
Wow the salad sounds amazing. And I actually have some spare turkey floating arounnd…might even roast some parsnips to go in too! Yum!
Your eats look delic, especially the cereal bowl concoction, the drunken goat cheese, and the feast inspired salad… Yum
One of my favorite salads has apples + raisins + goat cheese + pistachios- love the sweet and salty combo!
K, I need to get some drunken goat cheese from Sprouts, ASAP. I’ve never been to that grocer, but there’s definitely one in Mountain View. My favorite thing to raid from my mom’s house is cereal. I can’t be trusted to stock it in my own kitchen, so I look forward to a few bowl when I’m at her house. And when I’m at my dad’s house it’s got to be the oreo ice cream he always keeps in the freezer!
Oh man, the Persian food looks incredible! My favorite thing to raid from my mom’s house is string cheese, she always has a ton of it!
I love being home and raiding my parents’ pantry! My absolute favorite thing is avocados though because I never have them at school! Over break I think I was averaging at least half to a whoel avocado every day!
I don’t like that coffee cup! #rolltide
I always insist/demand on getting pizza when I am home – I live an hour outside of NYC so our pizza is pretty darn delicious.
