Well, HELLO! It has been quite some time since I came around here. To save you a soap opera, the short story is I moved 3 times and started my post-grad job. CH-CH-Changes to say the least. While I love documenting my eats and being involved in the blogging world, it has taken a backseat while life has been in the fast lane. Don’t fret, I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, I’m just figuring out my new routine and such.
Midst all this madness I have had a few moments of clarity that reassure me life is good and everything will eventually fall into place.
My new house has a fig tree in the backyard so on moving day while waiting for our furniture, it was clearly necessary to take a break to climb the tree and pick some fresh figs. I can’t wait to top salads with these guys, but I either need to work on my tree-climbing skills or figure out how to get the ripest figs from the top branches. Suggestions?
I’ve been trying to add a bit more running back in my life since its free (#postgradproblems) and I just happen to be running the Ragnar Relay from San Fran to Napa in 1 month. No time like the present to start training, right? I’ve done a couple of runs exploring da new hood in Santa Barbara and when I went home to visit, I also did a nice run along Huntington Beach which made me extremely nostalgic. Seeing all those little Junior Lifeguards running around seriously brought me back to childhood. Tear. I’m growing up!
Not having a kitchen for a couple weeks sure takes a toll on your body. I was seriously CRAVING clean eats, so I decided a trip to one of my favorite places, Backyard Bowls, was in order. I’m not sure who actually invented Acaí Bowls, but I like to think BYB (Backyard Bowls) is the OG when it comes to these creations. My personal favorite is the Green Bowl, which is a blend of acaí, banana, broccoli, spinach, ginger, lime, and apple juice PLUS topped with bananas, berries, granola, and honey. Food like this seriously does a body good!
ALSOOOO, I got to the meet the charming girl behind Snack Therapy, CARLY! She is in Santa Barbara for an internship and I couldn’t be more excited to have a BLEND who is so close in proximity. We grabbed Mexican food last week and on Saturday we took a Bodysculpting class at Lolë. The class focused on working all those little muscles in your body that you don’t pay attention to normally which I could DEFINITELY feel today. AND we got kombucha after. PERFECTION.
… probably the most Omnivore’s Dilemma-esque meals I have ever consumed. My roommate’s boyfriend is a fisherman and has a ridiculous garden. He made is halibut and crab he caught, pasta from the farmers market topped with tomato sauce he made with produce from the garden, and a salad from the garden with homemade dressing! Dinner was enjoyed while sitting by the fire. Michael Pollan would be proud.
